Peer Advocate 

Pay Range: $18-$21 Hr.  

Announcing a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor of Devin’s Rec Room, a  CNY community of physically active people brought together by sober living and  committed to creating an environment of healing and recovery. Devin’s Rec Room  seeks to help people eliminate the stigma and guilt of addiction by creating a community  of healing and recovery. 

As a grass roots non-profit, Devin’s Rec Room is seeking a passionate, motivated  person to join our team as a Program Administrator/Certified Recovery Peer Advocate.  If selected, you will wear many hats. You will help develop processes and procedures to  ensure excellent program management. You will also help research and implement new  software solutions to maximize member experiences, data reporting and reduce  overhead ratio. You will assist in fundraising, marketing, social media duties. You will  always be learning and never be bored. 

You will also help members strengthen and maintain their recovery, helping them gain  skills, and regain the confidence to succeed in society. You do this by helping develop  programs in basic life skills structured around SAHMSA’s eight dimensions of wellness;  emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and  spiritual, and providing members encouragement and guidance for engaging with  activities to engender feelings of support and community. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist members in the development and strengthening of wellness skills,  confidence, and relationships 
  • Facilitate groups in an open and welcoming environment 
  • Provide direct peer guidance based on your own lived experiences and  education 
  • Help participants understand and employ recovery strategies 
  • Help CEO with marketing, social media and a myriad of other duties as  necessary

Requirements and Qualifications 

  • Positive Attitude 
  • Enjoy working with a variety of people  
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some early mornings, and frequent  evenings and weekends 
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License 
  • Ability to work independently as well as an integrated member of a team
  • Computer proficiency 
  • Personal Trainer and/or Yoga Instructor certification preferred, but not mandatory 

Education 

  • High school diploma or GED certificate 
  • Associate degree or higher (preferred) 
  • CRPA certification or working to achieve certification within six months of hire
